AIM AND PURPOSE:

Rebranding nursing service with aim to ensure a standard, excellent care and optimal patient outcome.

VISION STATEMENT:

To be a driving force in transforming of nursing care services through education, research and compassionate care, making sure that patients receive evidenced based care in line with international best practices across all our value chain system.

MISSION STATEMENT:

To ensure holistic individualized patient care that is evidence-based through professional development of nurses and interdisciplinary collaboration.

  • Employ and retrain nurses with specialties while creating opportunities for further specialization.

  • Ensure management provides necessary instruments and technology-based equipment for efficient and effective service delivery.

  • Conduct periodic monitoring and evaluation with feedback on nurses 'service delivery by the Quality Assurance Committee.

  • Install computerized system at every unit for effective and proper information management.

  • Ensure proper placement and remuneration of nurses with specialty certifications.

  • Organize periodic management meetings with Heads of Departments to discuss issues and challenges related to patient care services.

  • Incorporate the Head of Nursing Services/ Director of Nursing into management and board meetings, as nursing issues can only be adequately represented the Head of Nursing Services.

Mrs. Fidelia Chika Owoh, RN, RM, RNA, BSc, PGD, MSc

Mrs. Fidelia Chika Owoh is a highly experienced nursing professional, healthcare administrator, and policy specialist with over three decades of dedicated service in Nigeria’s health sector. Her career reflects a strong commitment to clinical excellence, leadership, and health systems development.

Educational Background

Mrs. Owoh began her professional nursing journey at the School of Nursing, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, where she trained from 1985 to 1988 and obtained her Registered Nurse (RN) certification. She further advanced her clinical expertise by completing her Registered Midwifery (RM) program at the School of Midwifery, Bishop Shanahan, between 1991 and 1992.

Driven by a passion for specialized care, she undertook training in Anaesthesiology at UNTH Enugu from 1999 to 2000, earning the Registered Nurse Anaesthetist (RNA) certification.

In pursuit of academic and administrative advancement, Mrs. Owoh earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Nursing Administration from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, between 2001 and 2005. She later obtained a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Health Economics, Management and Policy from the same institution (2011 – 2014), followed by a Master of Science (MSc) in Health Economics, Management and Policy from UNEC between 2015 and 2017. To further strengthen her leadership and public sector management capacity, she sat for an exam for the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) in 2017.

Professional Experience

Mrs. Owoh commenced her public service career in 1993 with the Enugu State Ministry of Health, where she was posted to the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital (ESUTH), Parklane, Enugu.

From 1993 to 1997, she served in the male and female medical wards, gaining extensive experience in patient care and ward management. She later worked in the paediatric ward from 1997 to 1999, providing specialized care to children and contributing to improved paediatric nursing outcomes.

On completion of the anaesthesia training programme, she was deployed to the Anaesthesia Unit (Main Theatre), where she served from 2000 to 2024., playing a critical role in surgical care delivery and theatre operations.

In recognition of her vast experience, leadership qualities, and professional competence, Mrs. Owoh was appointed Director of Nursing Services from 2024 to 2026, a role in which she provided strategic leadership, mentorship, and oversight for nursing services within the health system.
